There’s no denying that where you stay can make or break a trip, especially during Pride season. Manchester is no different, not least because most of the action takes place in and around the Gay Village. Less than five minutes away by foot is the Maldron Manchester City Centre Hotel, which has everything you need and more to have an unforgettable Pride celebration.
Before we unpack the hotel’s excellent amenities, let’s lead with the best: the Maldron’s amazing team. They are not just allies to the LGBTQ+ community, but champions of it. Every year, they go the extra mile to celebrate Pride with themed brunches, decorations and, of course, drag queens. These don’t feel like tokenistic gestures, but rather ways to ensure all of their guests know that Queer people are welcome at the Maldron, which makes it especially great for couples visiting Manchester (be it for Pride or otherwise).
Staff also make an effort to remember your name, which makes asking for help, directions or advice less daunting. That said, you also have the option of checking in and out at the self-service kiosks, which are easy to use and will likely be the preferred option after a long journey or rushed departure.
The rooms are clean, spacious and modern, with chic, large bathrooms that provide ample space to get ready in. Each comes complete with a huge bed and flat-screen TV loaded with plenty of entertainment options, which may or may not be used during your stay depending on how much Pride you can handle. This, combined with the Maldron’s impeccable dining options, might result in you spending more time in the hotel than originally anticipated – but that’s certainly not a bad thing.
Speaking of food, breakfast at the Maldron is a buffet-style feast with plenty of options, including vegetarian and vegan choices. During the rest of the day, food from a good sized menu is available as and when you want it. The huge dining space includes a well-stocked bar, which is home to one of the finest espresso martinis Manchester has to offer.
If you’re someone who likes to squeeze in a workout during a trip, the hotel’s on-site gym has you covered. It’s compact but has everything you need, including weights and treadmills. It’s not open to the public and never appeared to be overly busy, which is always a win.
Despite Manchester Pride might still feel a while away, it’s never soon to book your stay at the Maldron. Located in the heart of the city with a team waiting to welcome you with open arms, it’s the perfect place to call home in August.
Manchester Pride runs from 22 – 25 August, with tickets available here.
