What happens when one of the most successful OnlyFans models in the world steps out of adult entertainment and enters the cultural zeitgeist? That’s the topic of the latest episode of The Spills, a Queer pop culture chat show from Gay Star News, hosted by sex journalist and producer Helen Meriel Thomas.
Helen interviews Lily Phillips, a porn star who recently went viral for filming herself having sex with 101 men in one day. The stunt triggered a moral panic on social media platforms, as well as a torrent of slutshaming abuse directed at the self-titled “mattress actress”. But Lily’s not bothered – as far as she’s concerned, this is all good exposure for her brand and subscription content, which is making her rich. Watch The Spills episode below:
Helen and Lily discuss the ethics of the industry, slutshaming, body counts and sacrifice. Lily goes into detail about how she managed to film all 101 encounters, the kind of guys that came, and exactly what “counted” as sex in her tally. Lily also discusses how she made her guests feel comfortable when they were all amateurs who were new to filming porn. “I gave them my iPhone because I wanted to avoid all this,” she says, pointing to the cameras and lighting set up in the Joe Media studio. “A lot of them were quite nervous, but I hope I chilled those nerves out… people think it’s this super seedy thing, but when they left they were usually just like, ‘thank you’ and got on their way.”
Lily is also famous for having worked with controversial former co-star Bonnie Blue, who promotes herself having sex with university students and “fresh 18-year-olds”. Lily admits the chatter is just “rage bait”, and that having filmed a freshers event with Bonnie, “every man and his bloody dog turned up… there were hardly any 18-year-olds there.” But it’s Bonnie’s recent comments about not minding having sex with married men because some women are “lazy” which doesn’t sit well with Lily. “It just gives us the name that we’re only here to have sex with, and that all we offer is sex… men then feel entitled to women’s bodies.”
With Lily currently in “training” to do 1,000 guys in one day come February, the pair also discuss Lily’s personal safety with her work, from safeguarding against STIs and taking PrEP, to the uncomfortable reality that subscribers often have a parasocial relationship with OnlyFans stars.
There’s one question Lily is sure how to answer though: Who’s her dream co-star? “Riley Reid!” says Lily, no hesitation. “She’s like, the dream!”
