RuPaul’s Drag Race star Nicky Doll has taken legal action against actor and right-wing commentator Laurence Fox after he described drag artists performing in the Paris Olympics opening ceremony as “deviant little pedos” on X (formerly Twitter).
During the event on 26 July, Nicky – known as Karl Sanchez out of drag – was among a group of drag artists who portrayed Greek gods in what some believed to be a parody of ‘The Last Supper’ by Leonardo da Vinci.
Responding to the performance, Fox said: “No point in getting wound up when the child f***ers want to wind you up. Just laugh at the deviant little pedos. Eternity is a b***h.”
Two days later, Nicky vowed to take Fox to court.
“Since you didn’t learn the first time around when you called my friend @crystalwillseeu a pedo,” she wrote on X, “I’m going to show you that you don’t get to write things like that about queer people for the fun and the misinformation of it and go away with it. See you in court, again, @LozzaFox!”
The star’s lawyer, Anne Sophie-Laguens, has since issued a statement confirming that Nicky has indeed followed through with her promise.
“Stop Homophobia lawyers have received numerous reports of incitement to hatred, insults, online harassment, threats and defamation,” the statement read.
It went on to say that Nicky has faced “an unprecedented wave of animosity and malice” since her Olympics performance.
“These messages go far beyond artistic criticism and for some convey odious and defamatory amalgams, equating drag performance to pedophilia,” the statement continued.
“These comparisons are serious and unacceptable. It is in this sense that justice has been seized, and that any publication or message equating Nicky Doll’s performance with the encouragement of pedophilia practices will be reported.”
Fox recently lost a High Court libel case filed by ‘Drag Race UK’ alum Crystal and Stonewall trustee Simon Blake after he falsely branded them “peadophiles” on social media in October 2020.
He was ultimately ordered to pay £90,000 per person in damages.
